We specialise in keeping Early Child Care Centres looking great by maintaining and developing gardens, cleaning windows, re-barking playgrounds, caring for sandpits, cleaning the outside of buildings, water blasting footpaths and mowing lawns. We understand the complexities of running an Early Childcare Centre and are willing to work around your opening hours (by working early mornings, late afternoons and weekends). Parks & Schools
Open Spaces – We maintain all Open Spaces (e.g. parks) in our neighbourhood. This includes mowing large areas and currently three sports fields, spraying field edges, picking up rubbish, cleaning hard surfaces and public toilets. We are trained and sub-contracted by CityCare https://www.citycare.co.nz for this work. All Stepping Stones workers have undergone their Health and Safety Training and are expected to achieve a high standard of work.
Odd Jobs
We’d consider any odd jobs – including weed eating long grass, cleaning up rubbish, sorting out building material on sites, water blasting, hedge trimming, dirty cleaning jobs – contact us to see if we can do it. And if we can’t, we often know others who specialise in various areas that we can refer you to.
History
Stepping Stones Lawns, a Social Enterprise, began in 2015, in response to opportunities that arose from a $6 million development of a central public park (www.randwickpark.co.nz). The Randwick Park Residents’ Association submitted a park redevelopment proposal, and successfully developed partnerships with Auckland Council and Manurewa Local Board. At the time, Downers were mowing and caring for the local parks in the Manurewa, and were approached to consider sub-contracting Stepping Stones to mow all parks in Randwick. Local care and maintenance of these parks has developed a sense of responsibility and ownership. Local caretakers have become more conscious of their neighborhood and the desire to make it an even better place to live. Responsibility & ownership gives a strong feeling of pride, creating dignity and hope. Hope and dignity are key ingredients for transformation. Our neighborhood has developed local leadership, local projects, youth programmes and local social enterprises. Stepping Stones is becoming part of a Randwick Park Collective; consisting of four local entities. This Randwick Park Collective holds dearly to 3 key principles:

Neighborhood, leaders and residents, have a right to self-determinate and have input into the future of their neighborhood.

A Collective Model of power (the ability to make decisions for) and wealth (resources to create the decisions) is shared between four local entities.

KAITUARA – Support Youth Worker
We fund & employ a KAITUARA – Support Youth Worker, who supports the running of three weekly youth clubs in Randwick Park.
The Song of the Tui
We’d love to see and hear the return of the Tui, and other native birds, to our neighborhood. Over the next 5 years we are planning to use some profits to re-imagine our parks by planting native trees and shrubs. Shifnal Park is our first in 2017.

Re-Imagining our Parks
We’d love to hear from locals about other ideas to help improve our parks and neighborhood. Helping to make Randwick Park, an even better neighborhood to live in, is one of our goals.
