History

Stepping Stones Lawns since 2015
Working together to create an even better neighborhood.

Stepping Stones Lawns, a Social Enterprise, began in 2015, in response to opportunities that arose from a $6 million development of a central public park (www.randwickpark.co.nz). The Randwick Park Residents’ Association submitted a park redevelopment proposal, and successfully developed partnerships with Auckland Council and Manurewa Local Board. Local care and maintenance of our parks has developed a sense of responsibility and ownership. Local caretakers have become more conscious of their neighborhood and the desire to make it an even better place to live. Responsibility & ownership gives a strong feeling of pride, creating dignity and hope. Hope and dignity are key ingredients for transformation. Our neighborhood has developed local leadership, local projects, youth programmes and local social enterprises. Stepping Stones works closely with Manu Tukutuku and the Randwick Park Sports and Community Trust (www.manutukutuku.co.nz) and this effort was recognised by Recreation Aotearoa, awarding Randwick Park with the Green Flag Award for 2019 and 2020. Stepping Stones takes a Community-led Development approach to its work, believing transformation of society starts from the grassroots and advances to change systematic structures for the Common Good of everyone. Working with other Randwick Park entities and leaders is expressed with these 4 principles:

  • Neighborhood, leaders and residents, have a right to self-determinate and have input into the future of their neighborhood.

  • Working together to share power (the ability to make decisions for) and wealth creation (creating resources) is shared with Community Leaders.

  • creating Social Enterprises to develop community economics and resources to support local projects and dreams.

  • Working with locals to create a creative flow of social change, economic advancement (especially for those on the margins of society) & places of connection.
